Lettuce Galore

  • Fall planting is always the most challenging to plan as you never know how the weather will play out. If it’s a cold fall, it is possible to end up with a harvesting gap as growth slows. In contrast, with a warm fall like we’re having this year, it’s easy to end up with multiple plantings of the same crop becoming harvestable at the same time! This week, that is the case for lettuce and, as a result, we will have a wide selection of different lettuce varieties available. We will be harvesting red and green butter heads, red romaine, red and green leaf lettuce, and romaine hearts, making it a perfect time to enjoy a nice big salad! Each of these varieties offers its own unique character, from the smoother texture of the butter heads to the crunch of romaine to the loft of the leafier varieties, and as a result are excellent mixed together.

We’ve got some true cold weather predicted for this weekend and the coming week, with lows solidly in the upper 20s and 30s, so make sure to pick up some eggplant and peppers while they’re still around! Below is this week’s full harvest list. The online store will be open on Thursday from noon until midnight as usual. Thank you so much for your support!

Wow, what a lettuce line up! I am loving the butter heads so will try the romaine hearts too.
What about radicchio? Is it a lettuce type also? I’m going to get it too. In some ways I guess
its better to get some cold weather so you can reduce the number of crops requiring
attention. The garlic is also incredibly good. Your photos are amazing.
Thanks for taking the time to take them.
