Update & feedback

We’ve heard from some of you over the past few weeks regarding our decision not to return to the market at this time and you’ve shared your experiences (both good and bad) at the Burke market since it’s reopening. As a result, we wanted to explain our decision to continue to rely on home deliveries at this time and would also like to solicit your feedback.

We are a small-scale, family farm in the truest sense. Our farm is literally run 100% by Katie and Mike, from the farm work itself to staffing the market to the business end of things. Sick time is really not an option for us. Farms require care on a daily basis and one or both of us becoming sick would completely shut down the business, so we feel that we need to take more than the utmost care at this time. Furthermore, we want to safeguard the health of our customers. We worry that attending the market will expose not only us to an increased risk, but also any of our customers who would otherwise choose to stay home and receive home delivery. Having done farmers markets for years, we know that there is only so much one can do to keep a sanitary environment due to the large number of people, multiple interactions, and shared bathroom facilities. Right now, all of us are in this together and we feel that if we are able to continue to operate our business with home delivery and thus minimize the risk of exposure to ourselves and others, this is the right decision to make to help ensure the health and safety of our family, our farm, our customers, and all of our communities.

However, we do continue to talk on a daily basis about what is best going forward and if and when we will return to markets. We would love to hear from customers as we work to figure out what is best for all of us going forward. Have you been to the market? What has been your experience? If you enjoy home delivery, please help us keep this going by sharing our information with friends and neighbors who might also be interested!

Thank you, as always, for your support. You are what is allowing our business to succeed in these challenging times.

Stay home, stay safe, love the ease of ordering online payment upfront & delivery – what could be easier and smarter?

Great job letting us all know your decision process & asking for feed back. I think you have definitely made
the correct decision & most of the folks I talk w/are beyond happy to have things delivered & not have to
go to the store for fresh produce. It will be interesting to see what some of the people who have been to
the Burke Mkt think about how it is being run.

I love the home delivery option & will keep buying as long as you offer it. In the past, it was hit or miss to get to the market in Burke because I am usually out training on weekend mornings and miss the chance. That being said, I haven’t wanted to go to the market since it opened, so have no experience with this year’s to provide. Until Monday, I had mostly stayed home for 3 months except to go run or bike and to see one or two friends. We started back at the office this week and I feel the attitude is rather relaxed out in public – people seem to think that phase 1 & 2 mean the concern is over. That isn’t the case & I am happy to stay more isolated/socially distant as much as I can. I will continue to share your posts with friends and hope they try some of your wonderful offerings. I tried the Russian kale this week & so easy to make a quick salad. Last night I tossed them in my lentil dish – this may be my new favorite type of kale!
